I'm looking forward to it too.. i wonder how many people even realize how
HUGE this really is.. there's only a few major milestones over tthe short history of the PC.. let's see.. you've got the first personal computers (Apple wins that round!) the release and widespread adoption of windows (i'm not sure which of the two, w31 or w95 was the milestone, however)..
The day that Tim Berners-Lee switched on the world wide web..
and the day that the PC as we know it became obsolete.. which would be... right about now!
I'm not sure whether the complete 'thin client' approach of ChromeOS, or the iPad approach, where the apps are stored on the device but re-downloadable whenever needed,.. will win out.. but...
I AM sure that within a few years there's going to be web based OS's from every major player..
M$ must *surely* be paying CLOSE attention, as this was the total focus of their attempts in 1998 with the 'active desktop' and 'Internet Explorer' and 'Explorer' being (ideally) one and the same.. they were trying to have more and more of the apps everyone would use online at a central server, and less local apps...
There is just Soo much positive that can be said about this (chromeOS's) approach.. no need anymore for slow resource hogging SV's .. you might still need one for real-time detection, but no more massive hard drive indexing and scanning..
I'm not entirely sure what percentage of the app (say a text editig app) runs under the memory of the local computer, but essentially.. the responsibility for running the app would fall to the remote computer (correct me if i'm wrong)..
Floods? Fire? nah.. you might lose your house but not your ripped video collection..
... Now there's two sides to everything, though...Which brings me to a final question..
Who supplies the storage medium if all your stuff is out in the virtual etherkingdom.. and..
What happens if you don't pay.. or if they wanna 'Get' you..
OK so that's two questions ;-)

If you're looking for Googles Chrome/Chromium OS this is not the place. The download link is to Chrome OS Linux that is in no way affiliated with Google but just uses the Chromium web browser on top another linux distro.

Downloading atm, I'd just like to recommend using mediafire next time, as the hosting site you selected is probably the worst I've ever seen XD

I have made a list of various sources to download Chrome OS here >> http://chromestory.com/2011/08/chrome-os-download-usb-netbook/

I found that it is very fast on the installation, and it picked up my laptop hardware without any problem.

It didn't take three hours, like some dufus said (#12), but it did take about 1:45min.

It is worth the try, I am just dissapointed that it is linux based and not android.

Hey is this the genuine chrome OS linux? I am downloading it from this website. Any advice please?

chrome os guys is openSUSE with the chrome web browser installed, it works great but it isnt a google os YET people get that confused all the time. The only thing that is differnet fro the other linuxes is that the chrome browser starts automatically and brings you to the getchome.eu page, which is where the basic apps are.

If it's so great and so free, why is it so darn difficult to find an ISO to download at a decent speed. I could write an OS faster than it's taken me to find an actual download.

Just a bunch of hype until I can get it without a bunch of user-vicious hoops!

I feel like you should make it a bit clearer that you are "Google Chrome OS Linux", and not "Google Chrome OS". And that you have no actual relation to Google. That's a pretty -huge- difference. I haven't seen a single disclaimer anywhere on any of your sites. like, maybe, getting confused for chrome OS is where you get most of your downloads, or something weird like that.

thanks.

Total CONFIDENCE TRICK to get you to pay for a download of 'free' software.

This is not Chrome OS and the download is slowed down specially. 5 hrs for 620M is like the dial up days.

should get rid of this website it is worth nothing and just a waste of time. if anybody reads this first just forget it your going to download nothing. but if you want to try it they don't pull any download tricks on you anyway it just pretty much just don't do anything.
