Google Chrome Extension: PageRank Status - Google Chrome SEO Toolbar Extension

http://www.chromefans.org Jun 01, 2009 08:21 PDT

Posted by Andrew.

I wrote a PageRank Status bookmarklet on Oct 07, 2008. However, it's based JavaScript plugins and not a really Chrome extension. Google announced extensions for Chrome on May 12, the developers can develop and test Chrome extensions now. I just developed a PageRank Status extension, it's a really toolbar extension that automatically shows Google PageRank of the current web page. You can install this PageRank Status Extension with following steps:

Guidelines: Install PageRank Status extension for Google Chrome

1. Download and install Google Chrome developer version. If you have installed, ignore this step.

2. Add --enable-extensions parameter:

I. Right click the Chrome icon in your desktop, then click Properties.

II. Click Shortcut tab.

III. Add --enable-extensions parameter in the Target field:

Right click the Chrome shortcut icon, and then add -enable-extensions in the Target field

Screenshot: Instructions to enable extensions for Chrome

3. Launch Google Chrome.

4. Install PageRank Status extension for Chrome.

  • Extension: pagerank.crx
  • File size: 9 KB
  • Last Build: July 11, 2009
  • Requirement: At least Google Chrome Developer Version 3.0.189.0

5. Restart Google Chrome.

The screenshot of PageRank Status Extersions:

The screenshot of PageRank Status - Google Chrome Extension

Update history of PageRank Status

  • Jun 01, 2009: PageRank Status 1.0 released, shows the Google PageRank information of current web page at the bottom bar of Google Chrome.
  • Jul 11, 2009: PageRank Status 2.0 released, compatible with Google Chrome Developer Version 3.0.189.0

Nice job! It works great for me, even without step 5.

Any chance you can get rid of the question mark icon?
Andrew replied on Jun 01, 2009 10:54 PDT :
I will try to add an option to enable/disable it. please wait the next version. :)

PageRank relies on the uniquely democratic nature of the web by using its vast link structure as an indicator of an individual page's value. In essence, Google interprets a link from page A to page B as a vote, by page A, for page B. But, Google looks at more than the sheer volume of votes, or links a page receives; it also analyzes the page that casts the vote. Votes cast by pages that are themselves 'important' weigh more heavily and help to make other pages 'important

You will need Chromium browser to use extensions, not Chrome.
Chome latest version is 2.xx and Chromium is Deverloper version that starts with 3.
You can download Chromium here: http://build.chromium.org/buildbot/snapshots/chromium-rel-xp/
- check the LATEST directory for recent build

Hi Andrew, could you add 'Show Alexa Rank' feature to this toolbar?

#24  Outpost Smart Water Meters posted on Aug 09, 2009 21:07 PDT
@liju - The quotes should stay around the "c:\.....chrome.exe" and then add the -enable-extensions after the quotes.

Hi Katalok, I have noticed this problem. "PageRank: ad" means that Google blocked our request. I will fix this problem ASAP.

#28  Rob posted on Aug 20, 2009 22:45 PDT
It won't let me open the .crx file, though I've added the text to the target box like you said.

Any ideas?

Do i need to install the Chrome Developer Version for it ?

I am using Google chrome (3.0.195.21) .. And its latest updated version.

The extension does display at the left bottom of the browser, however its not reporting any PageRank as compared to PageRank Status which can be drag and drop to bookmarks bar, it's always "PageRank: N/A"

#42  stylight posted on Oct 07, 2009 09:26 PDT

Would like to see a "how to uninstall" mention especially since it appears for some time now that a lot of users install and then can't use the plugin (the infamous N/A glitch).

Guess I'm off to figure out how to uninstall a chrome extension. Guess I have to sometime...

LOVE the idea of your plugin though, something chrome definitely needs. :) So, big thx. I imagine tough to keep up with Chrome updates...

Good luck.
